The world of professional cycling is far from the mainstream media’s attention 11 out of 12 months of the year, though they’ll take a look during the Tour de France in July. However, the world professional cycling is anything but quite the other 11 months. With hundreds of other races, rider transfers, and new equipment there is more than enough reading material to keep me procrastinating from more important things for (usually for more time than I’d like to admit). To keep track of what the mainstream media is missing I am forced to the interwebs, and the blogosphere. Here are five of my go-to blogs for cycling information. 1) Velonews.com Velonews is a very ‘mainstream’ site within the cycling world, it also is responsible for publishing VeloNews the magazine. It’s coverage ranges from race reports, to rider interviews, to reviews of the latest products to hit the market. It rarely leaves a stone unturned, and rarely proofreads any of its posts. 2) Pezcyclingnews.com A bit of an alternative blog, which offers a variety of different coverage apart from the more popular, cycling blogs. With road site reports from races that delve into not only the race but also the bars along the way, or how-to’s and advice columns it is usually an interesting read. Don’t miss the “daily distractions” either. 3) Podiuminsight.com This is a site run by a woman from Canada who does all the traveling and reporting herself, focusing mainly on American races and teams. Many larger sites focus on the big European outfits so podiuminsight offers a nice change of focus with good interviews, race reports, and photography. 4) Iamtedking.com It is a blog written by a professional cyclist from New Hampshire who is now racing for the largest professional team in Italy. He's cool guy and it's fun to read about his adventures and stories of being a professional athlete living in Europe. 5) Cyclocosm.com Though not a site I frequent, it is popular among the cycling community and offers some very opinionated yet insightful articles about both current events in the sport as well as race reviews and tactical breakdowns.
